Bhoomi Poojan for Electoral reforms: When will that happen?

Congrats to the nation that today (Dec 10) Prime Minister Mr. Modi shall perform ‘Bhoomi Poojan’ for the Temple of our Democracy,i.e., a stone laying ceremony for the construction of a New Parliament building.

However, It is time to start working on cleansing Politics also so that our Temple becomes clean and pure:

1. Bring Political Parties under RTI.

2. Transparency in political funding (Chanda kee Pardarshita) is badly needed. The electoral Bonds introduced in last 3 years have actually struck a death blow to the principle of transparency and accountability.

I hope Mr. Modi paves the way for bringing much-needed electoral reforms in India.

“Bol Re Dilli Bol” song released by Munish Raizada Films

Sung by Kailash Kher, the song Bol Re Dilli Bol (बोल रे दिल्ली बोल) was recently released by Munish Raizada Films. The song is a part of documentary film (6 episodes) named “Transparency: Pardarshita” that has been directed by Dr. Munish Raizada.

Bol Re Dilli Bol song is based upon the plight of Delhi under the rule of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government. Munish Raizada has been part of India Against Corruption (also known as Anna aandolan) and AAP. The director believes that the Kejriwal-led government sidelined the core ideals of the party, while trying to sell his achievements via governance, which at best is a matter of perception.

Here are the lyrics of the song Bol Re Dilli Bol in Devnagri and Roman scripts.

Fasting for 4 Days: My Experiment

Completed 75 hours of Fast (only plain water) and still counting! Since it is night time here, I intend to break my fast in another 10 hours (next morning).

First 24 hours are difficult (rumbling in stomach and hunger feeling and occasional irritability ). Once it is crossed, hunger takes a back seat. You are more at peace with yourself. In fact, after 24 hours, you feel starting better. The body is in in alignment with your thoughts. I have been just taking plain water. I have been working my regular patient care responsibilities in the hospital also and went to the gym on all 3 days (avoid strenuous exercises on 3rd day).

The body has a great flexibility to deal with starvation. In first 8-10 hours of fasting, as the liver’s Glycogen stores have been depleted, fats (lipids) start kicking in to supply the energy. And fats remain the main source of energy for fasting upto a week. If fasting is prolonged beyond 7 days (not advised), proteins (stores) are pushed in to provide energy, hence muscle wasting would happen.

Fasting has its other benefits. Many believers of Naturopathy say that prolonged fasting detoxifies the body and provides a chance to body’s immune system to reset itself. Individuals with Diabetes mellitus, other metabolic disorders should avoid it. It is recommended to consult your doctor before taking on to a prolonged fast.

Will write more in days to come!

PS: I ended my fast after 4 days, ie, 97 hours. I started taking juice a few hours before breaking the fast. Ended the fast with a light supper.

Note: This is not a medical advice!

Pakistan: Will Imran Khan be a Rabble Rouser Prime Minister?

As Mr. Atal Behari Vajpeyee once said: “You can change friends, but not  neighbors.”

Even though Pakistan was carved out of India, today Pakistan is a bête noire for India. At the expense of sounding politically incorrect. India will continue to live with this neighbor that is perennially unstable. divisive and emotive.

There was no basis for creation of Pakistan. And if religion (leading to a pure and pious nation) was the core basis for creation of Pakistan, in 70 odd years, this has been proven amply wrong. Islamic Republic of Pakistan is an anomaly that\will continue to keep itself unstable. As long as Pakistan remains a THEOCRACY, it will continue to spell doom for itself  and its neighbors. Let me quickly add that an unstable, economically struggling Pakistan is of no pleasure to India. A peaceful and prosperous neighbor is what India  would naturally like to have.

Former Cricketer Mr. Imran Khan is predicted to be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan.  His political struggle for last 2 decades seems be paying off. The results of Pakistan’s  national elections held 2 days back have not been yet fully declared, but look at the tone of its Prime Minister-in-waiting. Mr. Khan’s tone and tenor. It is confusing and contradictory.

Mr. Khan stated yesterday:

  • “If India takes one step towards us, we will take two steps toward them…but at least (we) need a start. Right now, it is one-sided where India is constantly just blaming us.”
  • Kashmir is the core issue.
  • We want to improve trade with India.

Muhammad Ali Jinnah started singing the tune of a secular Pakistan. This excerpt is from his first speech to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan in 1947.

The irony is that having succeeded in getting India divided on the basis of religion (Islam), Muhammad Ali Jinnah started singing the tune of a secular Pakistan. This excerpt is from his first speech to the Constituent Assembly of Pakistan in 1947. Wikimedia Commons

Let us take a frank look at Mr. Imran Khan;s confused thought process.

If Kashmir is the core issue and Imran Khan continues to focus at its as a core issues, he also knows that relations with India are likely to remain cold.

Trade and Kashmir harping can not go together as Khan must know that Pakistan is the cause of unrest in Kashmir.

Pakistan needs a statesman Prime Minister and it seems that Mr. Imran Khan does not fit into that mould. He is considered close to the Pakistani Army (aptly called a state within a state) and can often go hawkish. His love for Islamic militant organizations is also well known. In fact, some experts have openly labelled him as Imran “Taliban” Khan. Khan is also provocatively anti-American.

An ex-CIA officer has gone to the extent of saying that the upcoming Military-Imran combination will be more problematic for SE Asia.

AAP’s Chanda Chor Gang is not only humiliating honest people, is humiliating values too!

Feb 14,2017

Open Letter to Kejriwal: Satyagraha if donation list ( Party Funding Details) not made public by December 3, 2016

Open Letter to Arvind Kejriwal:

Satyagraha if donation list to the Party Funding Details not made public by December 3, 2016

November 25, 2016

Chicago, USA

Subject: Satyagraha for Clean Money in AAP

Dear Arvind:

On the eve of Foundation Day (November 26) of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), I wish to bring to your kind attention that the list of donations from party’s website was removed more than 5 months back.

Despite the presence of more than 1800 political parties in India, you and many others took a stand that we need a NEW political party because we need to change the political culture in India. To bring ‘Vyastha parivartan’, AAP was launched with 3 fundamental principles:

  1. Public funded Party: This is our core principle. To create a corruption-free India, we stated that we would start with an absolute financial transparency in our own party. We pledged to ourselves and the public that AAP would be a purely public funded party and we would provide details of each penny donated to the public.
  2. End high command culture and strengthen inner-party emocracy in the party by bringing Swaraj.
  3. Internal vigilance by appointing an Internal Lokpal. The party will also provide the right to reject and right to recall rights to the party members and volunteers.

Removing the details of donations to our party is a serious violation of our own principle and the core value. It is a serious breach of trust between the party and its stakeholders (the donors, volunteers, patrons, and supporters).

If we deviate from showing details of political donations to our party, then what is left behind? AAP was created to do honest politics. Naturally, that starts with honest political funding and transparent accounting.

Arvind, lakhs of people have supported AAP because we set a high ideal for ourselves: Corruption-free India is not our mere demand; it is our insistence

How can we swear for removing corruption in India, when we cannot even show financial transparency to our own donors? Lack of financial transparency can lead to the virus of corruption. Thus, Let us set our first step correct: A corruption –free AAP is the pre requisite before we promise a Corruption-free India to our fellow citizens!

In your interview to Ankit Tyagi of Aaj Tak on November 07, 2016, when asked why AAP has removed the list of donations from its website, you replied that Central Government has started raiding our donors, thus we cannot show our donations.

People have donated and nurtured the party like patriots (desh bhakts) because we gave them to understand that AAP is not a mere political party, it is a 2nd war for independence (Aazadi ki doosri ladai). Our donors have donated like kranti-kaaris. People supported and donated to the party because they could feel a revolutionary zeal by slogans given by you like “Niklo bahr makanoon se, Jung lado baimaano se”.

How can we NOW betray them by hiding their financial contributions? On a personal note, I have donated Lakhs to rupees to the party and I do not fear any persecution from any authorities.

The way the Aam Aadmi Party has masked the donations from the public, the way you have decided to give excuses for not providing details of donations, I feel pained and betrayed as a volunteer and a party member. I request truthfulness to be restored without any further delay.

I cannot even think that AAP will compromise with the core principle of financial transparency. The donations to the party were made by people and they are the stakeholders of our party. The public needs to know the details and this is our promise to them as a party.

My specific requests are the following and I urge you to restore them ASAP:

  1. The AAP website must put back details of all the donations (starting with Rupee 1 and above) at our website since inception of the party. This should be done ASAP and the donation list should be up-to-date.
  1. To respect the principle of transparency and accountability, donations on AAP website must be searchable by name (example: If I search for Anil Kumar, all donations by all donors by this name must appear). The earlier practice of finding donation by receipt number makes the things cumbersome for the donors and public.
  1. Annual Balance Sheets of AAP’s income and expenses are missing from its website after March 31, 2014. They must be put in public domain ASAP.
  1. The real details of 2 Crores (4 checks of Rs. 50 Lakh each) donated to be the party in April of 2014 (deposited in the AAP account in July 2014) are still missing. You had stated in an interview on February 2, 2015 with Barkha Dutt of NDTV that you would be the first person to order an inquiry into these dubious donations if we come to power. We are in power now and the public deserves the real answers.

Arvind: AAP started like a revolution. If we fail in our core principle of financial accountability,  public will feel cheated. We cannot let that happen. We cannot fiddle with our accounts or give that impression by hiding our donations. By hiding donations to our party, we are also creating an impression that our party is acting as a medium to consume black money.

I request you to kindly restore the financial accountability of AAP – as specified via my 4 requests- by December  3, 2016- a week from the Foundation Day of Aam Aadmi Party. If this is not done, supporters, members and donors like me will have no option but to go for a Satyagraha. That is my personal pledge to myself for the country because I cannot compromise on financial integrity of a party for which I have given time, resources, and money.

Yours Sincerely,

Dr. Munish Kumar Raizada

PS: Please do not label me a stooge of any other party or an election gimmick. You know that I was unjustly suspended from the party for raising issues of transparency. I have requested to our Internal Lokpal to inquire my unjust suspension, but no one has replied to me so far. I do not belong to any other political party. Do not label me a Congress party member either as I have already refuted these charges.
